TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center Uses Next Generation Robotic Surgical System

TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center performed its first cases using Middle Tennessee’s only da Vinci® Xi™ robotic surgical system, allowing physicians to provide a minimally-invasive option for surgery.

“TriStar Hendersonville provides the latest tools, treatment and technology that offer patients an essentially scar-less procedure and faster recovery,” said Regina Bartlett, chief executive officer. “We are committed to delivering superior patient-centered care and are proud to provide our patients options that allow for less post-operative pain and a shorter hospital stay so we can get patients back to living their lives sooner.”

Loucinda Dampier, MD, was the first physician in Middle Tennessee to perform a robotic-assisted surgery using the new da Vinci® Xi™. Dr. Dampier, general surgeon at TriStar Hendersonville, completed a cholecystectomy, gallbladder removal surgery.

Robotics program surgeon lead, Chad Swan, MD, vascular and thoracic surgeon, performed a pulmonary lobectomy, lung lobe removal surgery. Dr. Swan was the first surgeon in the area to utilize cutting-edge technologies exclusive to the da Vinci® Xi™, working at the forefront of thoracic surgical care.

“The da Vinci® Xi™ robotic surgery system has mechanical wrists that bend and rotate to mimic the movements of a human hand,” said Holly Smithey, director of surgical services. “However, the system does not act on its own — the movements are completely controlled by the surgeon.”

TriStar Hendersonville will offer minimally-invasive robotic-assisted surgeries for the following specialties:

  • General Surgery
  • Gynecologic Surgery
  • Urologic Surgery
  • Thoracic Surgery
