PORTLAND, Tenn. (October 5, 2016) – TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center and TriStar Portland ER staff helped build a second home in Portland with Habitat for Humanity of Sumner County. The emergency services departments first partnered with Habitat for Humanity in 2014 with what originally started as a team building exercise. The impact that the event had on the staff had them signing up for a second go-around to help build Habitat for Humanity’s 53rd home in Sumner County.

On Friday, September 23, the staff swapped their scrubs out for jeans and gloves, and spent the day putting together the framing of the new Portland home.

The homeowner was very thankful for the support and tearfully said, "I don’t know how to begin to thank all of you for giving me your time and your hard work. I am truly overwhelmed with the amount of you that are here today. I can tell you guys have fun and care about people and each other."

TriStar Hendersonville and TriStar Portland ER are part of their communities – and their communities are part of them.

"I cannot tell you how proud I am of my ER family," said Melony Scott, director of emergency services at TriStar Hendersonville and TriStar Portland ER. "This family goes above and beyond every day to take care of our community and to take care of our facility. They have hearts of gold and are always seeking ways to help others."

Scott recognizes her staff that were able to help out on the construction site and those that were there in spirit while at the ER taking care of patients. Above all else, her staff is committed to the care and improvement of human life not only in the emergency room, but with the lives of fellow neighbors in Sumner County.
